atheisms
The intellectual atheism of modern Western societies, which actively rejects both God and religion, is probably the most commonly recognized atheism.
In addition, there are several religions which formulate no conception of God, but instead are concerned with living in harmony with eternal Truth. These might be considered non-theistic rather than atheistic, as they have no interest in denying or repudiating the idea of God.
Jainism and Buddhism do not hold to any beliefs in a Supreme Being. They do, however, believe in an eternal, self-existent, absolute Truth as the foundation of all existence. The goal of life is to perfect one's consciousness until it gradually grows closer and closer to this Truth, finally coming to exist only in and through that Truth. These religions teach a spiritual path of deliberate effort to transform the consciousness, disassociating it from attachment to the transient, imperfect things of the material life to become a part of the eternal and infinite.
Both of these religions have developed branches which recognize different levels of advanced souls and spiritual beings who may be petitioned for assistance on the spiritual journey of life.
Like these two, Daoism (Taoism) is a religion without any belief in God, and is focused on balanced living. The Dao is the natural flow and reality, the true meaning of life and the universe. Consciously living in the flow is called the wayless way, the pathless path.
