Angels

angels are the manifestations of those places
in ourselves
    where we touch God
angels are the names we give the points
of passage
    to the unqualified truth of existence
angels are beings of light who enter our world
    on their own terms
they are the forms that God’s thoughts take
when passing
    through material dimensions
angels are the accompanying spirits who
remind us
    of what we have forgotten
    call us back to our life’s path
    whisper what we’ve always known
    collect our moments of truth,
    open chasms of regret that swallow
those long stretches of untruth with which we fill our souls

they bind together our regret and our truth
    our remembrance and our forgetting
    our hope and despair
wrap it in the breath of God and fling it out

to light the universe
